This weekend a large group of SAAB owners from Germany, Austria and Switzerland met for a three day event at the Schnitzmühle Adventure Camp in the village of Viechtach in the Bavarian Forest, northwest of Munich. The Bavarian Forest, which straddles the mountains on the Czech border, is rather picturesque, with steep grass covered hills, small villages and hamlets occupying the valleys, and each town with its own Gästhaus (guest house/restaurant/hotel) and Biergarten (beer garden). Last weekend was offically the middle of the summer, and this weekend the SAAB Club Rhein-Main in Frankfurt, Germany gathered to celebrate and get together. It was a hot and humid day, and many SAABs and their owners showed up. The event took place at the former SAAB Zentrum Frankfurt, now Harzmann SAAB. The former dealership still shows the colors of our beloved brand, and with the amount of SAABs still being sold and serviced on site one wouldn't think the manufacturer is gone. ...

The current owner of the car had called me two days ago saying he had someone else who was interested in the car but willing to pay 500 Euro more. He said I was still first in line to buy the car for the price we had agreed, 4000 Euro, but he would like an answer by Monday, or he would sell to the other guy. Well, I just returned from the vehicle inspection, and surprisingly the front tires passed inspection. The right front is right at the wear bars and the left is a sliver higher than the wear bars. The inspector recommended that I replace them soon, but he did not fail the car for the tires, which is what I was expecting.
