  • New 2012 Saab 9-5 SportCombi spotted around Trollhättan

SaabsUnited posted the first pictures of the new Saab 9-5 in the wild without camouflage. It appears Saab is not very concerned about pictures of the new SportCombi showing up in the media. Check out the pictures on SaabsUnited: link

The Swedish magazine Auto Motor & Sport published another image of the same car (LFB 248). They mention on their website they have many more pictures on file but are waiting for the embargo to be lifted so they can be published. When are the official pictures going to be made available? It sounds like Saab may release them before the official introduction in Geneva.

Saab refuses to lift the lid and so far we have only received a measly picture of the new 9-5 SportCombi. Very irritable, especially when we have more pictures hidden on a hard drive, however, are subject to an embargo.
Thanks to Saabforum.nl and SaabClubNL for the tweet.

A picture like this is nice to see! However, Saab World and others had a photo earlier. As expected, the wagon looks like the sedan/saloon except the top rear is squared off. When will the new 9-3 appear?

I like it, but I don't like the rear doors and such. I know it's always been a thing with the 9-5's, but it looks like they just stuck a little roof with windows on the trunk. I like when the wagon version has a bit more differences than it's sedan counterpart. I want to say it's "cheapness" for lack of a better word.

Still like it, even with that though.

Good point and same thing for me. I started to like it on the 1st generation 9-5 after while but it still looks a bit odd. They did a very nice job with the 9-3 SportCombi so why not for the 9-5? Would the new 9-5 SC look good with vertical taillights?

This is the biggest thing about it... the top of the rear door windows don't line up with the rear-side windows. The lines conflict! I like the back tail lights better than the old 9-5, especially with the center bar light, but it would be better if they worked it into some vertical tail lights or something that seems to fit better.

Oh, and what's up with the weird badge placement... or the tiny wiper?

It should have different rear doors with larger windows so the rear would line up better, as Shazam mentioned. Volvo just made the back side windows smaller with the V60. Not sure if I like that design but the back is definitely different from the S60 sedan.

Agreed - they somewhat look like they made this wagon in haste. It still looks nice - but the rear side glass is too small and the doors COULD have been a bit larger to meet the rear glass. Aside from that - I sure hope that emblem placement is a joke.... Just leave it off if there's nowhere to put it! I still want a 4banger FWD Manual 6 if it's priced near $30,000 If it's another $35000 car for base model spec, I'll wait til it's 5 years old and buy it for $8,000.

I am not seeing anything new here, at least nothing that wasn't covered on SW before. Or am I missing something?

The placement of the "9-5" on the rear is odd. Of course, the test car is sometimes different from the final version. The prototype of the 9-3 Sport Combi (Sport Hatch in Spain) was a little different from the final version. The prototype did not have body side moldings but the car later came out with it.

I, too, have heard that the 9-3 will be coming out in late 2012 as a 2013 model but sometimes these plans get delayed.

According to this September 2005 press release Record Order Intake for New Saab 9-3 SportCombi | Saab Media, the 9-3 Sport Combi was released September 5, 2005. However, I was in Trollhattan in May, 2005 and saw a 9-3 Sport Combi. It wasn't disguised.
