  • Wheeler Dealers - Saab 9-3 Turbo Convertible

Wheeler Dealers is a car television show on the Discovery Channel, fronted by Mike Brewer and mechanic Edd China with assistance from technical advisor Paul Brackley. The premise of the show is that Brewer and China are on a mission to save repairable enthusiast vehicles, by repairing or otherwise improving an example of a particular make and model to a budget, then selling it to a new owner.

Is that bulkhead problem unique to the 9-3 or is the 9-5 prone to it as well?

I never heard of that bulkhead problem before but I am not really familiar with that generation of the Saab 9-3. Interesting and important to know!

I also didn't know there are USB data loggers you can plug into the OBD port and record vehicle data.

AFAIK, the cracking firewall problem is unique to European models.

It is RHD models only, and it's only the 900/9-3. The 9-5 is in the clear. So it's the Aussies, the UK'ers, and who ever else has a RHD 900/9-3. The Aussies fixed them at Saabs cost, so you should be in the clear.

Amazing how cheap used cars are in UK! 2400 pounds for that vert translates to about $A4000. Here, you would be very lucky to get a decent 2002 vert for $10,000.

Not sure about the "wheeler dealer" bit though; that was a heck of a lot of time and effort by the two of them just to share a 400 pound gross profit. A true wheeler dealer would want to make a better margin than that.

I had the same thoughts. A decent 2002 9-3 convertible would set you back about $6000 - $8000 in the USA. The US and AUS dollar are about the same.

I have seen it in other European countries as well where is this a much bigger difference between new and used car prices.

I can find a couple with 100 miles with 80K on the clock in the ~$4500 region. Found an 06 for $13K.

Is there excessive consumption of engine oil?

    Anderson,

you should maybe do a simple test yourself before you speak to your mechanic, it is referred to as "the PCV glove test"

Assuming your recent oil consumption issue is related to a newly defective PCV system .(and not some of the other more serious causes mentioned earlier)

I have received your message. My PCV system was indeed repaired at the beginning of this year, and there was no oil consumption issue before that. Thank
