Trollhättan, Sweden: As it continues to establish itself as a successful independent premium car manufacturer, Saab Automobile today announced a new organizational structure for its engineering department. The new structure will optimize Saab Automobile’s ability to build competitive premium cars for the 21st century and allow the company to realize its ambition of creating one of the most efficient engineering organizations in the automotive industry.

Since becoming an independent company on February 23, 2010, Saab Automobile has worked intensively to revitalize its engineering department which until then was integrated in the General Motors structure. The new engineering organization is now well-equipped to support Saab Automobile’s extensive development program and current product offensive, with vehicle electrification and the successor to the current Saab 9-3 being two major focal points.

My friend Robert , Saab lover, has posted an incredible album of photos on Flickr he took at the Uusikaupunki Automuseo last week. It's located just outside the Valmet factory (old Saab factory). I was told that the museum was founded by a local car collector, and it contains his collections and a lot of Valmet produced cars and Valmet prototype cars.

In total it's three big rooms with cars, two of them with mostly Saabs. The third contains other brands. It's a lot of old Saabs, maybe even more than the Saab museum in Trollhättan. The museum has 14400 visitors every year, and could be open all year because of financial support from Valmet Automotive and the city. The factory started in 1968 with the Saab 99, and I think they made the Saab 96 as well.

Rally legend Erik Carlsson is to support the centenary celebrations of the Monte Carlo Rally by backing a team who will compete in this week’s XIVth Monte Carlo Historique rally in an exact replica of the car that took him to victory back in 1963.

The classic Saab 96 has been created by German vintage car magazine Oldtimer Markt and will be driven by chief editor Peter Steinfurth and navigator Thorsten Loeber .They will take the start at Reims this Friday (28 January) in a car that recreates the original in every detail, right down to the 283 entry number Erik used that year. He will be on hand to wave them off.

The exploits of Erik, aka ‘On the Roof’, Carlsson helped put Saab on the automotive map in the 1960s. He is a double winner of the Monte Carlo Rally in 1962 and 1963 and also took a hat-trick of RAC Rally victories in 1960-62. Now 82 years old, Erik was born in Trollhättan, Sweden, the home town of Saab, and was a works driver for the company throughout his career. Today, he is still employed as a roving ambassador for Saab.

Saab is recalling 4,400 passenger cars to fix fuel pumps that could seize and cause the engine to stall. Saab said the recall affects certain 2010 and 2011 model year 9-3 sedans built from June through October of 2010. The company says some of the fuel pumps may have had components with incorrect specifications.

The company says the defective fuel pumps could seize, stopping the flow of fuel to the engine and causing the car to stall. Saab says there have been no accidents or injuries reported.

Dealers will replace the defective fuel pumps free of charge. Owners will be notified and the recall is expected to begin around February 18. Owners can contact Saab at (800) 955-9007.

PSFK, a New York City based trends research and innovation company, posted some pictures of the Saab Snö Hus on their website.

The stand was unconventional for an auto show and a Saab representative mentioned to us that they are planning another unique event for the New York Auto Show this April.
Saab is listed as an exhibitor at the New York Auto Show so it will be interesting to see what kind of unique event it is going to be.

    Anderson,

you should maybe do a simple test yourself before you speak to your mechanic, it is referred to as "the PCV glove test"

Is there excessive consumption of engine oil?

Assuming your recent oil consumption issue is related to a newly defective PCV system .(and not some of the other more serious causes mentioned earlier)

I have received your message. My PCV system was indeed repaired at the beginning of this year, and there was no oil consumption issue before that. Thank
