Thats very impressive and I'd love to see pictures of both!

Wait, a homemade crossbow and a homemade suit of armor? Are you preparing for another invasion of New England?

Now I'm starting the search for a pistol. Still don't have the permit, but I'm working on it. The top two choices I currently have in mind are a Glock 19, and the new Walther PPQ. They are both a concealable size(the PPQ a bit bigger), yet big enough to be comfortable in my hand. My oldest brother has a Glock 19 that I've shot only a few times. It had a good feel, and has tons of options. The Walther PPQ looks 10x better, isn't much more money, and seems to have all the perks of the Glock, with the exception options (the biggest downfall is not being able to get pre-ban magazines. NYS only allows 10 round magazines, or magazines made before the ban). I still have yet to go hold a PPQ in my hand, it's still new, and a far less common gun. I'll end up going to a bunch of gun stores to find one probably. But I have held the P99 in my hand, which is the basis for the PPQ. It felt great, but you can only tell so much from holding it for five minutes.

    I like that Walther.

If you like the 19, try the 36. .45>9mm

Single stack clip, 6 +1 in the chamber.

I'm looking for a Ruger LCP

.45 would be nice, but I want to be able to afford putting 100-200 rounds down range in a day, and not have to reload. Someday...

Ruger LCP? Why not go for the classier (although more expensive) PPK. Pure James Bond right there. Hold one in your hand, and you'll realize you could probably kill someone throwing the gun at them too. Everyone I have felt feels like a brick shit house. So solid, such a tight and well built feel, and of course, all metal.

The Ruger is as good as the PPK, plus its a little cheaper.

The PPK also doesn't feel comfortable in my hand.

.45 ammo isn't cheap, but sometimes you can find good deals online. I usually use a FMJ for target practice and have about 1000 rounds of them and I keep about 200 rounds of semi-jacketed hollow points(people stoppers) at home. My dad also reloads .45 so I can shoot the hell out of them when I'm at his place. I also have about 300 rounds for ,y M1 carbine.

I've already colonized New England, and quite well! Now I am full-time in the great state of Vermont.

My brother makes this stuff. This suit is a bit tight on me, because he custom made it for himself. He does commissions, so if anybody is interested, I can forward his e-mail along. He's done a watchband, a few hundred keyrings, guitar straps, neckties, dreamcatchers, and two good suits of armor...and he's only a freshman in college.

    And here's my crossbow!
The whole thing. The cranequin (winch) is handmade from bicycle framebuilding and bottom bracket parts. The prod (bow) is laser-cut out of high carbon tempered steel. IIRC, the pull weight is around 198lbs. You cannot even string it by hand. The trigger lever is plasma-cut from sheetstock. The stock is of two-piece construction, from 3/4" maple planks, routed out in between to accommodate the trigger mechanism and screwed together with brass flat-top screws. Prod is lashed to the stock with some 500lb-test nylon cord (originally they would have used hemp or catgut or cotton).

You can see how the thing hooks the string to pull it back, via that metal U-shaped hook.

Sight is there above the trigger "roller nut". Trigger roller nut is currently in "fired" position, as if the string has already left it. When it is cocked, the string sits behind the two hooks there on top, and the bolt sits between them. Medieval roller-nuts were made of horn. This one is Delrin, which is close enough. This sophisticated trigger mechanism was invented in the mid-14th century, and allowed archers to vastly improve both the force and accuracy of their shots. Earlier trigger mechanisms consisted of notches cut into the stock, in which the bowstring would sit, or posts behind which the bowstring would sit, requiring the string to seat itself in the bolt's nock as it flew forward upon release. I used to have a crossbow like this, and it often misfired, which was quite frightening, often resulting in the bolt flying either directly upward, directly downward, or ripping fletches off and following a crooked course downrange.

I once threatened someone with it (he was not getting out of my car, standing on the front seat after I'd asked him repeatedly to please leave me alone) and it wasn't even strung or loaded, but he didn't know the difference and ran like hell.

My brother texted me the other day saying he just bought a AR-15. Finally saw it today. Can't wait to shoot it though. Just from looking at it, it's pretty damn cool, but not for me. Don't worry, I've shot one before. Yeah, it's a ton of fun, but for the price of that ammo and being able to pretty much only shoot targets at not-so long distances wears thin.

Right now I'm looking at possible ways to add a scope to my Nagant. I'd really like to start going for some distance with the thing, other than only being able to stay in about a .5ft radius at 50-75 yards on the iron sights.

Was a good article. I can't remember who said it, but someone said something along the lines of: Why do so many mass shootings happen at school and universities, but so few happen at gun shows? Guns are banned from all schools, and most universities, yet can be picked up from any table at a gun show, along with ammo for it.

    @Shazam

I used to have an M91/30, a 1938 model. Sadly it's no longer with me. Anyhow, I researched ways of scoping the rifles and you have two choices: Have the bolt turned down (reduces authenticity and ease of operation IMHO) and having a Weaver-style rail installed at the rear sight. The problem with the weaver mounted scope is that it puts it pretty far downrange from the bolt, causing mild discomfort in some people.

The only gun I have right now is a early 1920s Hercules (pre-Sears) single shot .410. Hasn't been fired in years, was my great grandma's, is an heirloom piece now. I'd like to get a pistol but I don't know what is available/good for lefties? I'd love to pick up a Five-seveN but that's a pricey pistol and the ammo is just as bad. What other leftie options do I have?

/yes I fire pistols left and rifles right. Don't know why

A couple weeks back I actually picked up a pistol scope, with rings for less than $40. All I ended up needing to do was punch out some dowel pins holding on the rear leaf sight, and then tapped it off the dovetail on the rifle. I then just mounted the rings for the scope, and put the scope on. I have yet to sight it in, but just from looking down it, it seems pretty good. Because it is a pistol scope, it has a really long eye relief, allowing me to keep it mounted in front of the bolt, and still get a good picture in the scope. I think I'm going to the range this weekend to try it all out. Not my rifle, but I basically did the same thing.

The Five-seven is an awesome gun. I can't imagine paying for ammo for it though.

Ambidextrous pistols are becoming more common with European brand guns. The new PPQ that I'm looking at has a very different style mag release. I can't remember what other guns it is common on, but I've seen it before.

H&K makes a nice line of ambidextrous pistols, as well. They aren't cheap, but the quality is excellent.
