SaabWorld reported about the inaugural Historic Saab Experience 2011 last year and it was good to see the event was held for the second time last weekend. Our good Saab friend Tenfour (Roger) made some pictures and videos from this even and kindly gave his permission to share here on SaabWorld.
The event from last weekend took place at a track near Lelystad Airport located in the center of the country. Part of the event was at the Prodrive Training Centre, a company that provides training from professional drivers to race and rally drivers. This took place in the morning and the afternoon was spend at the training centre for the Dutch police.
The morning started out with classroom training followed by driving exercises. This included slalom, driving on a circle track in slippery conditions and higher-speed (70 km/h) maneuvers trying to avoid obstacles and still being able to control the car. This included slippery surfaces as well.
The focus in the afternoon was on developing good and sporty driving skills and practicing the perfect line on a track. The banked circuit must have been quite a unique experience. The incline of the corners of this track are 60%.
This track is also used by the RDW, a government institution for road traffic. I had the pleasure of experiencing a similar event about 25 years ago. However, this was mostly for improving driving skills and didn't include driving on the banked circuit. And it was for driver's training in a delivery van, definitely not as exciting as driving a historic Saab!
As with most Saab enthusiast events, pictures and videos will tell much more than words. Thanks again to Roger for sharing. Enjoy!
