About LinkBacksGot an Check Engine light and the mechanic says it's due to a bad catalyctic converter. I see them online for $90 for just the converter and around $500 for the whole unit. The mechanic said I can drive it with no issues, but is that the case? If so, how long (not wanting to pollute forever obviously) should I be able to drive it for and are there any problems with driving it?
Also, nice redesign on the web site!

Do you know the CEL code that was pulled? Is it a mechanic/garage specialized in Saabs?

It was P0420 and they don't specialize in Saab's but he's always be an honest mechanic throughout the years.

it can be a bad o2 that is throwing a false code. but the only way to know if the cat is going bad is if you go to a smog station to have it test, high NOx along with high Co will be a bad cat. but check for any exhaust leaks or vacuum leaks, that can throw off the sensor readings.
