    Flickering headlight

    Hey, everyone!

Over the past few months, I've noticed that my passenger-side headlight in my 04 Aero will pop back on. I don't notice that it's gone off, but I see the blink when it comes back on.

So, the light will turn itself off and on as I'm driving. Its not temperature-related, as it's been very nice lately.

Does this sound electrical or a problem with the bulb? I think I know what the solution will be, but I'm not looking forward to replacing the headlights. I'm assuming if I replace one, I need to replace both, right?

That's typical of a failing Xenon bulb. And yes, you should replace both at the same time because the other one will not be far behind.

No need to replace the headlights, just the Xenon bulbs.

Yes... I meant that. Is removing the headlights to get to the bulb as big of a pain as it looks, or is it not so bad?

I guess 9 years out of a set of headlight bulbs isn't so bad. I was replacing the Silverstars in my last car every other year, so I would have spent as much in halogens over that time period.

Good quality bulbs from Philips or Osram are about $100 - $120 a pair. Make sure you get the good quality because you get what you pay for. There are fakes being sold. Fake Xenon bulbs

I think you can change the bulbs without removing the headlights. It's a bit tight but should be possible. Here are more details on changing the bulbs and removing the headlights (if needed). Saab 9-5 Xenon headlamp, changing bulbs and control module WIS

+1 Frank. I think I paid a bit more for my Philips bulbs but it did solve my flickering problem. I did mine without removing the headlights assembly, it was tight but worked.

I've found a pair of Philips on Amazon for $120. So that sounds legitimate? The singles I could get through Autozone were $100 a bulb. I think they're Sylvania.

Some articles online have got me freaked out about counterfeits.

It's good to know I don't have the disassemble the whole light to get at the bulb. Makes me less wary about changing them. If you don't take out the whole light, do you generally not have to adjust them?
