    Oil change using Mityvac 7201

    Hello everyone,

I need some help. I purchased the Mityvac 7201 in hopes of changing my own oil and transmission fluid. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to drain the oil using the pump. I was, however, able to drain the transmission fluid no problem.
I've tried using the pump three different times through the dipstick channel but no luck.

    I have a 2004 Arc 2.3L

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Uh... try the drain plug? I always thought of giving those vacuum oil changers a try, but I am afraid of leaving too much oil in the case. I've been crawling under cars to change oil since I was 14 so that's my preferred method.

If your going to change your filter, you miswell just do it the traditional way. I'd rather get it all out than most.

Just to ad to it, those vacuum oil changers were invented to speed up the process of changing your oil. Great for a busy dealership. At home you have more time to change the oil, doing it on your free time. I'd take the time and do it the proper way by draining it from below.

Thanks for the immediate responses rpiereck and indpmind.
I understand both your views of performing the old change, but I already have the necessary tools and supplies to perform the change using the pump.
Has anyone been successful using an extractor?

I have been successful changing transmission fluid using fluid extractor. but not oil. however since I have to raise the car to change filter anyways, I didn't bother trying hard enough after first failure.
