i searched for that number and all results point to a Garrett GT1752 turbo for a B235E engine. That's the engine in your car and it should have a GT17 turbo.

Ive found a few replacements on ebay all around the £200-£250 mark but they all seem to be coming from china. Are these proper parts or cheap rip offs, and would they do the job?

    Thanks

I have read a few experiences with Chinese turbos on the Dutch Saab forum. They seem to work fine but not sure how long they will hold up.

Another possibility is to have your turbo remanufactured at a professional shop in the UK (I assume that's where you are). Price may be the same as a Chinese turbo but quality may be better.

I can look in the Saab Parts Catalog (EPC) this evening if there are any other part numbers for the turbo for your engine. Unless someone beats me to it.

This site shows the 452204-0001 and 0004 were used for the earlier models and 0005 for the 2001 B235E engine. All have the same 9172123 Saab part number (also listed in the EPC) and are GT1752 turbos so it should fit on your 1998.
