Suggest you try another mechanic. You dont give us much information but I doubt 3 fuel pumps are what is wrong.
I knew I'd read it somewhere....

Assuming that the fuel pumps being purchased are of good quality, the most likely reason for the repeated failures is a faulty fuel pump relay. A defective relay can cause a fuel pump to short out. It is located in the under dash driver’s side fuse box. Have it checked and if there is the slightest doubt have it replaced.
