When it rains ...
Ok, so this past week, I noticed that I was getting a ticking noise coming from the engine, somewhere in the area of the serp belt.
Plan was to drop into Aktive Motors in the next little while to have it checked out.
Today, driving back from skiing, I get a really bad noise ... sounds like the serp belt shredded and was slapping against things.
Pulled over, popped the hood and had a peek.
Looked to me like the tensioner was no longer tensioning ...
Continued driving home, hazzards on, 1500 RPM in 5th gear on the highway.
Drove for a bit, then "bing bong", oil pressure light.
Pulled over, found oil all over the right side of the engine bay.
Not sure what has happened, thinking crank seal, perhaps oil pump.
Had the car picked up by CAA and delivered to Aktive Motors for a check in the morning.
Hoping for the best and will keep you posted.

Not a good week for you at all! :( The tensioner and oil leak don't seem to be related and what are the chances these 2 things can happen at the same time? Good luck, hopefully it's something simple to fix.

Turns out it was an oil cooler line that ruptured.
It appears as though it was rubbing against the air box housing (I replaced the bushings 18 months ago ... guess they failed since then).
It may have been that enough oil got out and onto the serp belt, causing it to slip/grab/slip, etc, (thus thinking that the sert belt tensioner was the cause).
The belt in time shredded and perhaps caused the leaking line to open enven further.
Net result, Aktive Motors had both oil cooler lines in stock, replaced them and the serp belt, and changed the oil all before noon today!
Car is back on the road, just in time for the snow tonight!
