In that hole for the key ring there is a little clip. You can carefully pry up on the clip with a small screw driver... careful now, don't snap off the little bit of plastic. That will open up the fob and your battery is right there.
Sorry guys but that aint the one i,ve got,
mines is shaped like a fat pea pod with
saab moulded on either side, its about the
size of a pill box with a hole at one end
to put the keyring through.
I'm almost positive I have the same one as you. I tried to upload a photo (from my phone)with no success.... but I had this same problem, I thought maybe I had to take it to the dealership, then I dropped it and like magic it came open, so now I know. So there is a small seam around the remote where the softer plastic and harder plastic meet, right above the word saab. That seam will open. I used a thin knife to jimmy into the seam and it did open up. I left a small mark on my remote from the knife, so be careful. I would do it right above the key hole as to not be obvious. Right under the lock button seemed easiest but left a more visable mark. I'm sure there is some sort of tool but I have no idea and made due. Good luck!
I think you mean this one:

If so, I found this on the 9-5 manual. You need to remove that little screw to open the remote.
