My personal philosophy is that a fail safe or two pronged defense is needed. Vaccination is very important but only a one pronged defense. However, "enjoying life with friends and family" can mean that both relatives are vaccinated. In that case, I view that situation as a two pronged defense. I don't view the single line of defense (vaccination of some people meeting only and no other methods of infection control) as reliable enough given the reasonable potential for long term Covid symptoms or even death as well as gaps in vaccine coverage (5-12% failure rate after two doses).
