Nope. Goes away immediately under any throttle. When I was (erroneously) idling at 1000 rpms, the chatter wasn't there at all. Only at idle, less than 1000 RPMs
This sounds all fairly normal to me Zack. In my opinion the chatter you are hearing is likely to be the backlash in the primary chain-drive and the unloaded gearbox mainshaft at idle speeds. This is all what I regard as normal. If that is all it is, don't worry about it, just enjoy your Saab.
The chatter isn't anywhere near the tranny. Definitely in the head, definitely right at cylinder 1 (next to accessories). It gets louder when I get low on oil, which happens a lot as this thing leaks like a sieve
