To my understanding it is the guides and/or tensioner that cause the problems, not the actual chain. The plastic of the guides breaks, causing the chain to become loose.

I am looking at possibly buying a Saab 9-5NG (most likely the 2.0T). I have been trying to find info on the timing belt renewal intervals.
