This year marks 75 years since Saab was formed. The museum has a special exhibition and an audio tour for their Saab aircraft. The exhibition includes a Saab Safir from their collections and throughout the month of April, you have a unique opportunity to see the UrSaab, the very first car that Saab made.

    From the front dust jacket:

Launched in the late 1960s, the Saab 99 was a highly distinctive car from from a highly individual manufacturer. Designed as a medium-sized, and medium-priced family car building on the success of the 92-96 cars., the 99 scored a second substantial success for the Swedish maker. Well designed, reliable and, perhaps more than anything, noticeably different from its competition, the new car sold well and formed the mainstay of the company's output for over ten years. But when its successor, the 900, was conceived it was decided that the company should move into the executive market. Re-pitched for the wealthier buyer, the 900 provided the company with success in this lucrative sector. ...

The man who made the turbo engine commercially feasible on a large scale, Per Gillbrand, was awarded the Clarence von Rosen medal at a ceremony in Stockholm over the weekend.

A touched receiver celebrated the award with a test drive with his 1:4 scale Bugatti car on the white canvas, that he had built himself. It was very popular among the crowd when the smoke from the engine's 8 cylinders flew up among the chandeliers in the main hall!

Per Gillbrand has worked for the Swedish automotive industry during his career. He started as an employee at Volvo as a ...

    TROLLHÄTTAN

In beautiful spring sunshine, the crowds flocked to the Saab Museum, which re-opened its doors on Saturday. To many people's delight.

    - It's like coming to Mecca. This is naturally a great honor, 'said Henry Tung Strom, vice chairman of the Swedish Saab Club.

He had come all the way from Östersund to attend the festivities at the Saab Museum.

    - Feels great to be able to hold it together like this, not the cars disappear. It's a great deal of modern history. And it's fun when so many come here and look, there will be a meeting between the generations.

Among the guests were also labeled the city's great ...

From the Classic & Performance Cars website columnist Jay Leno.

    March 2012

It's sad that Saab is no longer with us, but with the quirkiness 'ironed out' what was the point?

I just heard on the radio today that Saab will no longer warranty any of the cars it sells in North America, which is pretty much a death knell. I’d like to think Saab can survive but it’s not looking positive.

And I have to admit that I’m not sure what Saab stands for anymore. When I was a kid it was a unique brand, unlike any other car maker out there. I’ll never forget my first ride in a Saab; I was in high school and a friend’s mother had an old three-cylinder ...

The badge fee for this year will be increasing to $20. No this is not to send those of us at the Central Penn Saab Club to Vegas for a weekend or anything like that. As you can expect, with the current state of the Saab brand, finding sponsors to help cover our costs is difficult to say the least. We have a few people on board, but seeing ...

Lyssna: Victor Muller pratar ut i P4 Väst

It is just over three months ago, Victor Muller, Saab's former CEO, was forced to file for bankruptcy to Vänersborg.

It was the end of Saab.

From your viewpoint, why did Saab in bankruptcy?

    - We had no more opportunities. When General Motors said they did not want to negotiate with Youngman, when it was over.

How was months before Saab filed for bankruptcy?

    - Tougher than anything I experienced before in my life. We just kept fighting, we had no choice. But eventually collide with a wall, we. When it was over.

    - The unpaid wages was extremely tough not being able to pay. The big reason we filed for bankruptcy was because the employees would not have to sit without their wages over Christmas last year. It had been awful, says Muller.

When you look back in time with Saab, what do you think?

    - It was a time without winners. It was tough for us, the employees, suppliers ... all stages. I regret that we failed ...

Today, three months after Saab's bankruptcy, emerges Victor Muller for the first time in public again at a conference in Stockholm. TTELA got an exclusive interview with him yesterday about life after Saab, the opportunity to spend time with family and plans for Spyker. It's cold at Arlanda airport and Victor Muller tighten the scarf around the neck.

    - It really is a temperature difference between Sweden and Mallorca. Has it been so cold all the time?

When we packed ourselves into the car for the journey to the ...

    1970 SAAB 96 V4 'Baja T-Car '
    Factory Rally Homologation Special
    1 of 50!!!

    VIN 96573114

The Classic Car Gallery is proud to offer this rare and unusual 1970 SAAB 96 V4 FACTORY RALLY HOMOLOGATION SPECIAL “T-CAR”. She is a stunning car, and draws a crowd wherever she goes!!!

It is known that SAAB exported 150 'Baja T-CARS' as DEALER ONLY promotional cars. They were dubbed T-CARS. These cars had the strengthened bodies and look of the rally cars, but the engine and transmission from a stock 96. Only 50 INTERNATIONAL BLAZE ORANGE cars were made. THIS IS THOUGHT TO BE THE ONLY REMAINING CAR!!! She received a lengthy examination by noted SAAB rally car builder and preparer Garth Ankeny in Portland, OR. He confirmed that the body shell shows all of the hallmarks of a SAAB “T CAR”. Many joints received extra seam-welding as well as additional body reinforcements and bracketry that only the factory bodied competition rally cars received. The motors and transmissions on the “T-CARS” remained stock SAAB 96. This car may be the only one left, and certainly is the finest on the market!!!

Production at the Saab factory in Trollhättan was halted on April 6 2011 after suppliers stopped their deliveries of parts. Fortunately, the production stop did not last very long and the manufacturing lines started moving again at the end of May. It was quite an exciting time because everybody thought all problems were solved and Saab was going to make cars again for a long time.

Production of Saab cars was interrupted again at the beginning of June because of a lack of parts and supplies. This time, the production stop lasted much longer and the factory remained silent from June on. Besides a few short time periods, manufacturing was halted for good and no new Saabs were made until the bankruptcy was announced in December.

Saab introduced a new exterior redesign for the 9-3 for the 2012 model year. The cars manufactured during this short time period in May ...

Another awesome day was spent by the Saab Club Australia Victoria Branch at Attwood (Police) Driver Training complex with around 13 Saabs present (and one infiltrator Porsche!). Good cross section of models from a 1970s 99, two 9000 Aeros, Classic 900, 9-5s, NG900, 9-3s and a TURBOX. I took along my 2002 9-3 Aero again… but alas no pics of that this time as I was driving!

A late model Saab 9-5 is not that unique but this one has an interesting history. It is one of the earliest 9-5 that came of the production line and is the Saab 9-5 Victor Muller picked up at Saab ANA in Trollhattan. It was actually part of the test fleet and number 42 off the production line.

A picture was taken with him and Jan Åke Jonsson just outside the factory about 2 years ago. He drove the car to the Netherlands together with his sons.
