This was added to the site a few weeks ago and it proved to be a popular addition. I thought it would be a good idea to give a brief overview of the features and how it can benefit the Saab community.

Any registered member can add their Saab to the Garage. The only thing you need to do to get started is to enter a few basic details about your car, a short description and some pictures. Pictures are not really required but it certainly adds so much more to your listing. And who doesn't want to show off his/her Saab? You can provide details about your Saab, its history, future plans, wish list and so on. When you add a vehicle and provide your country and city or postal code, it will automatically be added to the Garage map (by Google). You can click on a map marker and find out more about those Saabs and its owner. ...

New magazine article added to the Archives.

Henry Manny, Geoffrey Goddard cross the USA in a Saab 99E
    Publication: Unknown - May 1972

"With an oblique look Geoff handed the keys over to me and we departed from 57th St., the odometer reading 2285 miles. It is a bit daunting to push off on a trip of that magnitude in a funny little foreign car, especially in a Press banger which may have been haphazardly broken in, but Swedish automobiles have such a well-deserved reputation for solidity that we didn't give it much thought." ...

The Saab Dealer Team has decided to close down their planned programme for the Swedish Touring Car Championship.

"We are closing it down, there will not be anything of it," said team boss Jan Warnestad to vf.se. The team has completed a test program with a S2000 specification Saab 9-3, powered by a bio-gas engine. The plan was initially for the team to join the STCC for a full season in 2009, plans that has been postponed several times.

The fact that the STCC is moving towards new regulations for 2012, which are reported to be set before christmas, is one of the reasons for the team to ditch their STCC plans. ...

The 2012 Saab 9-4X is set to join the automaker's shapely new 9-5 sedan at dealerships across the country in May, and we've now learned that cost of entry for the new Scandinavian crossover will be $34,205 (*plus $825 in destination charges).

That $35K price point gets you the base 9-4X with front-wheel drive and the 3.0-liter direct-injected V6, good for 265 horsepower and roughly 20 miles per gallon (combined). Moving up the model range, the 9-4X Premium rings in at $38,075 plus delivery. Premium models still use the same 3.0-liter mill, but XWD (Saab's all-wheel drive system) is available, as are a host of other goodies. ...

SAAB hosted a lunch at the New England Auto Show this week where they revealed the new SAAB 9-4X to New England Press. This is the first time the car was shown in the New England area. It's first appearance was at the LA Auto Show a short time ago.

The press conference was led SAAB COO & President Michael Colleran who spoke about SAAB current position in the automotive market.

When Colleran was done speaking, the sheet was pulled off to reveal the all new SAAB Aero X concept inspired SAAB 9-4X. My initial thoughts when seeing the car in person was that this new SAAB is incredible sleek, sporty, and aerodynamic looking. It is a SAAB 9-5 in a mid-scale luxury SUV package. ...

The news Saab has been making in the past few months – the defection of its sales director, declining sales numbers, worker layoffs – runs counter to the feel-good story of the brand's very existence. On the other side of that, though, the brand is still here, there's a resurrected factory in Sweden still pumping out cars, Jason Castriota is still working on an anxiously anticipated 9-3, and the 9-4X – unveiled to general acclaim recently at the LA Auto Show – is just months away from retail.

That's a lot going on for such a small, and new, company. We sat down with Saab chairman Victor Muller and president Jan-Ake Jonsson to find out what makes the 9-4X a real Saab, how the 9-3 is progressing, and where the 9-2 and ePower rank on the company's to-do list. ...

It features a dynamic presentation of the 9-4X, premiered last week at the Los Angeles international auto show, and connections to the Saab Newsroom at saab.com and Saab´s YouTube channel. The contents can be easily shared via e-mail or social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

“We see our updated app as a fantastic opportunity to maximize the interest around Saab and its products," says Johan Grundin, Saab´s Interactive Marketing Manager. “We complete the current experience of the new Saab 9-5 and provide a presentation of the Saab 9-4X. Why couldn't biggest automaker help one of the smallest? Lessons abound for Euro brand owners

Small, struggling, European premium-car companies that later became big and powerful -- like BMW and Audi -- did so because single-minded leaders put their careers on the line and stuck around to complete the job. That theory -- the "great man theory" of automotive history -- holds that General Motors failed to turn Saab into a powerhouse over the past two decades because it didn't allow strong, independent leaders to thrive at its Swedish subsidiary. In some cases, managers sent to run Saab may have been good, and gutsy, but they got pulled back into GM's hierarchy at precisely the wrong times. The cherry-picking of luxury brands by giant carmakers in the 1980s and 1990s mostly flopped. Now Round 2 is happening, with small players getting the chance. And as Geely takes over Volvo, Tata Motors tries to perk up Jaguar Land Rover and tiny Spyker Cars aims to revive Saab, there is plenty to learn. ...

Springman's Auto Centre is proud to announce a first - it is now the first Saab dealer in British Columbia since the Swedish car company was reborn. Victor Muller, the Dutch entrepreneur who started luxury car company, Spyker, took over Saab in early 2010. He saved it from being shut down by former owner General Motors. Muller is a car guy and he believes in the brand. And when brothers Dan and Rueben Springman started selling cars almost 30 years ago, they did so because they were car guys.

"My brother and I have always loved cars," said Dan Springman, co-owner of Springman's Auto Centre in Langley on the Langley Bypass. "We have a passion for the automobile. When we found out that Saab was being given new life by someone who shared that passion, we knew we had to be part of that," he added. The brothers started Springman Motors in Langley in 1986, selling pre-owned vehicles, becoming a Saturn dealer in the early 1990s. Today, Dan is the general manager and Rueben is the service and body shop manager.

LOS ANGELES -- Saab expects 75 percent of 9-4X output to go to the United States. But even so, the number isn't large by industry standards. The 9-4X is Saab's new crossover, developed with former owner General Motors Co. 9-4X output will average 12,500 units annually when full production is reached next year, said Jan Ake Jonsson, CEO of Saab Automobile AB. Jonsson said it is a conservative production forecast. About 9,400 are for the United States, he said.

"It is not that we don't believe in the car. We are trying to be responsible in how we set our volume," Jonsson said during an interview last week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, where the vehicle debuted. The 9-4X and the Cadillac SRX share engines, components and a front-wheel-drive vehicle platform. All-wheel drive is available. What separates the two crossovers is styling and suspension tuning. The 9-4X will be assembled in the same GM factory in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, as the SRX crossover. ...

LOS ANGELES -- Saab Automobile AB plans to begin distribution to China some time in 2011. A deal is expected to be signed by year end, CEO Jan Ake Jonsson said this week. “Until we launch the new 9-3 at the end of 2012, it will be just a couple of thousand units (annually), all based on imports. As we lead up to this, we have to make a decision if and when we are going to introduce local manufacturing in China,” Jonsson said on the sidelines of the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Among the issues to be resolved by the end of this year is “defining the dealer network” in China, he said. Saab needs to be present in five or six cities, with a total of 10 to 15 dealers, he said. A distribution deal for Russia also is expected to be announced by the end of the year. Details were not revealed. If a decision is made to assemble vehicles in China, production would begin with the next-generation 9-3. The 9-5 and the upcoming 9-4X crossover would be imported. ...

(Reuters) - The future of Spyker's (SPYKR.AS) Saab rests on finding more manufacturing partners and bringing down the number of cars it must sell to break even, its executives said.

The company hopes to cut costs by finding automakers to share vehicle platforms, Spyker Chief Executive Officer Victor Muller and Saab President and CEO Jan Ake Jonsson told the Reuters Global Auto Summit on Tuesday. The company is talking to potential partners, Muller said, but he declined to name any. Muller said the company is in talks with "a few" potential partners to share its new Saab 9-3 platform.

Car platforms represent the basic architecture and engineering behind a vehicle and can take hundreds of millions of dollars and four years or more to develop. For that reason, automakers including Ford Motor Co and General Motors Co are pushing to use the high-cost platforms across more models that can be sold globally, a move that reduces costs and improves profitability. Jonsson said Saab's target is to break even at sales of 85,000 cars annually. But he said that the niche automaker currently needs "north of 100,000" vehicle sales to break even. ...
