Just did mine today. A socket universal joint makes all the difference in the world. Great for the tight spaces and awkward angles.

I was working on replacing the upper engine mount which requires removing the battery and moving the fuse box out of the way. When I had these 2 removed, I noticed there is much better access to the thermostat and temp sensor. Only takes 5 minutes to remove the battery and move the fuse box out the way and it sure looks like it will make the thermostat replacement much easier.

Is the ground wire _really_ needed?
I managed to break off the bolt that holds the ground connection (due to a faulty torque wrench and a bit too much enthusiasim...).
I'm planning to extend the wire and connect it to the other 10 mm bolt with the bracket. Is that a good idea?

    Hi,
Great instructions changed the thermostat recently and the temp gauge works properly, heating is so much better!
I do have a slight leak near the top of the radiator where the top hose connects (was not there before I replaced the thermostat). I re used the SAAB clip to reattach the hose to the radiator. I am wondering is it okay to use something else? I believe the clip may not be as good as before?

So I just did this and the temperature sensor not 3 months ago, using genuine Saab parts. Last night in Texas we had a cold front of about 40 degree change and when I started my car after this and drove a bit, the temp gauge went all the way down again. Could the thermostat just be a dud?

I think it would be the sensor or loose connection to the sensor.

Hi all, am new here and having trouble finding info on Coolant Temperature Sensor location for a 2001 9-5, with a 6 cylinder. I see the Thermostat location is also different...Any help would be greatly appreciated
