In Spain "The speed limit on motorways will be 110 km/h from March 7th"
the measure is part of an energy saving plan to reduce gas consumption, which has gone up significantly as a result of the riots in northern Africa.
Temporarily lower the top from 120 to 110 kilometers per hour.

They are now mulling about charging you in case you drive more than a certain amount of km per year. Around 15.000. I am not talking about toll motorways. I am talking any road.
Sometimes I think I would be better off to NZ...

that is what the government say about the civilized countries, like US, Canada, UK.
but most of the Spaniards are against so low speed limit, with so good motorways you can sleep on the ride so long drive and cause more accidents on the roads.

Scott, is that on limited access, 4 lane divided highways?
Around here the speed limits vary by state. In Ohio the maximum speed on limited access, 4 lane divided highways is 65mph. In Kentucky it's 70mph outside of "populated areas", 65 and 55 everywhere else, Indiana is the same as Kentucky.
In Denmark I think the max speed was 120km/h on the limited access, 4 lanes and it varied from 70-100km/h on the 2 lane roads.

The logic is simple: US pays less for the cars, can't go so fast. In Europe we pay more, we can drive faster.
Not really, though... Norway, with the strictest speed limits known to man, have also the highest car prices in the universe.
