Luvverly new 16V turbo on my 8V :)

My old turbo had a suspect oil seal that resulted in smoky hot starts. A bit embarrassing in a crowded carpark when firing it up after a brief stop.

I went for a re-built T3 from a 16V, and moved a few things around to fit - including the new pipe from a more modern '83 900T.

Spools up smoothly and provides a more linear push I think. A TurboSmart T-controller lets me adjust boost response pretty easily.

Old 8V vs. new 16V - notice the larger compressor wheel and throat.

Nice, I still miss my B-motor cars. A 16v intercooler will bolt right in there and imho will wake the car up a little more.

I've been looking for a suitable intercooler for the past couple of weeks, funny that you mention. I was about to go for the common and cheap eBay bar & plate jobs, but will instead look for another with internal finning. Even a C900 T16 unit will do for a while. I am ridding myself of the A/C condenser up front, so I'll wait until that's gone and may even try and find a 9000 version to put there. It's approaching the cooler months here, so my intake temps will be down 20 degC in any case, but you're right - an I/C will still give me more.

And you'll be able to raise your CR if you're so inclined, for a bit more offboost pull, quicker spoolup and better mpg.
