Saabdocs.com
SaabScott suggested to post the instruction PDFs from saabdocs.com on our little forum. I sent a quick message to the site owner. While he doesn't have the copyright to these documents, I think it is always nice to ask first when you want to use content from another site.. He thought it was a good idea to make it more accessible with a search-able index and allowed the documents to be copied to SW.

Should we have a single thread for each document or group them all together in a single thread? The advantage of a thread for each is it may get picked up faster by search engines because the SEO URLs. Like this:

Link
It also may be easier for people to reply to the thread when they need assistance or of have additional info about these instructions.
Scott, you mentioned you already started this because you downloaded all the English docs. How can we split this up so we can both work on it and make sure we don't replicate each others work?

Yes, I have all of the English docs downloaded.
I think it will need to be 1 thread per document as some of them are almost 1MB.
Also, there aren't nearly as many as first thought.
There are duplicate part numbers ... probably for different geographies.
So putting one up and then listing all of the others that are identical will be best.
Of course, the other question becomes labelling and nomenclature.
It would probably be best for just one person to do this.
It will be slower, but more consistant.President, The Saab Club of Canada

As you have been and going to be busy with other things for the next few weeks, I started with indexing the part numbers. I downloaded all the files in every language last night but the largest task will be to add all these PDF files to SW. Renaming all of them will be even a bigger task. As an interim solution, I thought it would be nice to have an index thread you can search for part numbers and then download the actual PDF files from saabdocs.com if you know those part numbers. Something like this:
Automatic anti-dazzle rearview mirror SS/SC: 12756338gb.pdf
Achteruitkijkspiegel met automatische antiverblindingsregeling
Automatisch abblendbarer Innenrückspiegel
Внутреннее зеркало заднего вида с автоматической защитой от ослепления
Retrovisor interior automático, antideslumbrante
Automatiskt avbländbar inre backspegel
12 756 338
12 772 924
12 772 927
12 777 848
12 777 851
12 803 374
12 804 662
32 000 575
From this thread.

I started with opening every English document and copied name and part numbers. When that's done, names in different languages can be added (see above) and eventually we can also add the actual files for the most important topics.
This way, we can get it started it fairly quickly and keep on adding when time allows.Last edited by nordwulf; 13 September 2010 at 14:37.

The other thing that needs to happen is deciding upon the naming convention.
The part number is one thing, but almost secondary as most people don't know them anyway.
But naming it will be HUGE.
Should it be the model/yr/application or application/model/yr, etc ...
I vote for year/model (or reverse) followed by whatever the thing is ...President, The Saab Club of Canada

I moved this from the moderator clubhouse to Tech Talk. Perhaps we can get some more input from others about the best way to do this.
I made a good start with many 9-3 documents and also started to categorize them.

This is another idea I came up with. Make one thread for the most popular items and include an image from the first page and all language PDFs, including the translation of the part description. This will eventually be picked up by the search engines. It takes some time but it is also easier for more people to contribute with a single thread at a time. We could this at least for the most popular items. Like this:

Perhaps I want to make it too perfect? It does take a lot of time but it's better than hanging in front of the TV all winter.Last edited by nordwulf; 22 September 2010 at 02:32.
