And now I know what Dexos is

Sheesh, where did the days go when all you needed to know was use any Brand of 5 or 10W30 and change it every 5K, 10K if you went Synth... Some guys are still stuck in Grandads world of change it every 3K and there doing it with M1.

Wondering... Do you change your oil every 5K or 10K? I was advised to change the oil every 5K. Some people change it more frequently at 3K. Does it depend on the year of the model? I'm not that savvy when it comes to maintenance on cars, clearly. I'm learning though.

The current recommended Interval using Mobil 1 0W40 is 1 year or !0K, if your 06 or later you can use your OLM/SID as a reference (03-5's use the old standard, 15K/2yrs), harder driving styles (lots of Stop and Go) will shorten the Interval and will be reflected by the OLM. Myself, I change every 7.5K. Changing M1 at 3k is a bit extreme to say the least. You may as well use Mineral if your going to change at 3 or 5K. 5K is usually the recommended Interval for Mineral.

You know what's funny is that most automobile manufacturers don't recommend 3K oil changes...It's mostly oil companies, garages, and dealers. The owner's manual on our high strung 2004 Acura RSX-s with an 8K redline says that we can go 7500 miles with dino oil between changes and maintain the warranty. Which by the way is a moot point since we have 100,000 miles on it anyway.

owners manual says 5w-30, 0w-30, or 5w-40. Climate is hot and humid in the summer and very cold in the winter.

You answered your own question... if the 9-5 manual says it's good.... Why qustion it, I'd say it's good. You have three options to work with.

Well the biggest reason I asked was because last time I changed the oil (without thinking to check the manual) I used the 10w-40 and I wanted to make sure I'd be okay until the change or if I should get it out now? I changed it about 1000 miles ago.
