We might as well start one to get it out of the way. But do it in the Tech Talk section so we won't have to bother with it in each car model board.

Well I don't know enough about each model's requirements, but I think I could draft something for the SS and put it in Tech Talk while we ponder it. My idea was to have a sticky in the SS forum.

Is that comment pointed at me?
I think what Warren has put together here sums it up pretty well.
Hit all the valid points ... beyond that, it is a question of brand choice and viscosity.
I like the Mobil 1 product because it fits best (IMHO) for these cars ... has the necessary qualities and provides a good viscosity to cover the car in most circumstances.
Having said that, if there was another quality oil that met the same criteria, I would be just as happy with it.
I'm not a fan of highly priced oils in daily drivers.
If someone can show me an advantage, I'll be all over it.
Otherwise, good oil change interval with a main stream oil works just fine.
Sorry ... didn't mean to go off on a tangent here.President, The Saab Club of Canada

These days, Castrol costs more than Mobil 1.
Things like Royal Purple are much higher than that.
But of course, it is all dependant upon the local supply.
In Canada, Mobil is not a company who is looking to deal with many resellers and the costs reflect that.
Even buying bulk for the shop doesn't get me a deal on it ... strange as that may sound.
Castrol does discount, but their street prices are higher. Go figure.President, The Saab Club of Canada
