Make sure you stroll through the red light district in Hamburg! Even if you're not buying, the window shopping is fun!

The most American friendly place in Europe was Germany. I have a habit of renting a car and getting "Pleasantly Lost", with no particular destination.
The Germans drove me nuts. They can spot a rental a mile off and will stop and practice English which was never a problem. Always so helpful. Just remember to keep to the transit lane unless you have the hammer down and never pass a cop till they give you the wave.
Yeah, never one time and their English is excellent. My wife is Norsk and it seems all of that sector prides themselves on it.

Last time I was in Hamburg was on the way from Sweden to Holland with my EDP Saab. Berlin must have been a few years after the wall came down and I am sure much has changed since then. It'll be pretty easy to get around in Germany without knowing much German. Sounds like a fun trip.

Only time I've been to Berlin was the late '90s. Cracking place, but a heck of a lot of redevelopment going on, especially in the old East. A colleague had given us some tips on places to go, and not one of them checked out. So - next time I saw him, I asked him when he'd last been to Berlin... "1957"...

That reminds me of the story of the BA/BOAC pilot that requested direction to his gate from Frankfurt's ground controller.
"What's is the matter with you, haven't you been to Frankfurt before"
BA .. "Yes, once in 1944, but it was dark and I didn't land"
