I wouldn't change the carrier bearings, if you do you might need to reshim the driver housings to get the right preload, then you'll have to adjust to get the correct backlash.

Or are you talking about the inner driver support bearings?

So you have new outer CV joints, new trunnion/tripod bearings and you are going to go with new inner drivers?

Sounds fair, but you can do the swap from side to side, do you understand what I'm saying?

Well I tried to repair the turn signal switch. No Go. They must have hit the stalk end on cause the pivot cast into the metal cover was sheared off. I got it all back together but without the pivot the operation was really poor.

Holy crap these cost like $120. I am billing the garage.

Got a set of inner drivers, not new but show virtually no wear for $250.

Swapped inner drivers today laying on my back, even left the exhaust hooked up. They seem to ride pretty close to the outer edge of the driver?

So much quieter now. Will get some pics tomorrow with the Inca's new tires, Antique plate.

The tripod bearings ride 1/2" in from the edge of the driver on '89 up. Not sure what year 900 you are talking about but earlier drive shafts and drive cups are different and problems will occur if you mix them.

    Paul,

My car is an 85. The Tripods sit about 1/2 inch in, I just thought they would ride in the middle.

Your's sound just fine. There is a lot of room behind the tripod. As the suspension dives the drive shafts move in considerably and if there is insufficient room can contact the inner end of the drive cup. This can happen if you mix up early and late drive assembles.

My cool new Antique tag. Lifetime registration, no annual inspection. Supposed to only drive one day a week.

Wondering what kind of cool acronyms you all can come up with from the letters and numbers on my tag?

As you can see, I am not driving anywhere soon.

Found a few rust spots and a few perforations I need to repair before I put the interior back in.
