I just redid the ground wire in 4-gage cable, soldered both ends, and I replaced the regulator/brush assembly three years ago! The slip rings were not noticeably grooved then. It occurs to me that the regulator (not genuine Bosch) could be causing these problems, but I don't really know.

How about the ground point below the turbo? I removed my 85's harness and found a lot of the lugs there corroded

I actually know those are fine too, unless the cable is bad (corroded inside or something? It seems to be in good condition). I have had those lugs off of the gearbox primary drive cover within the past year, when I was changing the primary drive top bearing. I originally suspected those, because it seemed like the flicker came about at about that time, perhaps indicating that my repair had put something amiss. When I checked them out, though, they were fine. At this point, the only thing I haven't touched is the alternator body/diode/coil assembly itself!

I was thinking of the ground point on the chassis where all the lights and other items ground to the chassis. There are about 10 lugs stacked up there.

I have a VERY similar issue to your car with all my lights dimming etc. I just put a new battery in thinking that may be the issue since it was about 5 years old anyway. Problem did not change. Now I am thinking I have an alternator issue as well. Only difference is my car is a 2005 9-5 aero with 50k miles. From what I have read, an alternator change does not sound like a fun job on these cars.
