How about making some of the forums like Tutorial sections accessible for registered members only? One thought is people could not be bothered to sign up to view the information and would go somewhere else. Or perhaps they'll take a few minutes, sign up and participate here.
For example threads like this. Why didn't he ask for help on our site after viewing the tutorial here?

I made a change to the 9-5 Tutorials to test it out. Visitors can still view the thread list in that forum but will be prompted to register or log in if they want to view actual threads in there.

By making it viewable by registered members only, doesn't that limit it's ability to come up on internet searches?

Good point, I'll need to research that. We don't want to upset the search engine bots.

I'll be adding at least two new tutorials I know of, and possibly a third by the end of the month that I know of (all for the 900) and there is bound to be a lot from the 96 over this summer. Hopefully those will help. As of right now, I'm not sure what we can do.

So if a search engine can find it, and you click on the link from google or something, what does it say "Must be a member to see this page"?

Search engines can't find it. They still may have these results in their system from before it was closed and those links will show "Must be a member to see this page". Eventually, I assume the search engines will remove these from their database.

Yesterday and today there were 15+ new members a day. If they haven't posted after a few days, we could send a follow-up email welcoming them to the site again and list all the features to see if we can get them to become more active.
New members are already getting an automated email after a week reminding them to add their car to the Garage if they haven't already done so.
