    Engine vibration

    Actually it's more like shaking than vibration. This is on an auto tranny 2.0T vector combi. This only happens in gear and specifically only at speeds of between 50 to 70 km/h. It starts to build at 50 and smoothen out past 70. The vibration goes away as soon as I let off the gas. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

    So far, I have replaced all the engine mounts and the front control arm bushes. The rubber bushes were perished when I checked and I had initially suspected they were the problem. Vacuum hoses were checked for leaks and none were found. Coilpacks were checked and spark plugs replaced. No CEL. No codes. Nothing. I now suspect that it could be the transmission. I still do not have a clue as to what could be wrong.

    It's going in to the dealer on Monday as the last resort.

    He is right about the inner cv joint. The boot was intact and not broken, apparently it is worn. Do you know if it can be reconditioned or repaired. I have a spare driveshaft but the outer boot is broken and leaking grease. I have the cv boot kit that I can replace it with but I can't seem to find the circlip to remove the joint. Any ideas?

    OK, I managed to figure out how to remove the CV joint. I used a mallet!

    When in doubt, hit it with a hammer.

    You are best off just getting a refurbed set than trying to repair.
