How to clean a converible top?

I'm detailing a Mazda Miata tomorrow and it will be the first convertible I've done.

I've been wondering what the best products/procedures are for cleaning and protecting a canvas convertible top.

I take mine out in the rain once in a while for a wash! You're supposed to waterproof them as well, I hear. Another job for the list!
