    Upgraded Brakes

    Morning, all!

Wondering if anyone has purchased any of the slotted/drilled brake kits for the 9-5? Its one of those things that I really don't need, but I think they look awesome

Also wondering if the 17" Aero wheels are the only ones that would clear them, or do you think a set of 16's would work, too?

    I'll answer the 2nd question first ... ;-)

16" wheels will clear the Aero brakes ... I do this every winter. Having said that, I also use Saab wheels so the off-set, etc is right. I have seen the "right" sized wheel installed on a Saab before ... and they only fit when the pads had worn down some ... they weren't the "right" right size.

As for going with drilled and/or slotted discs, you are right, they look great. But they don't provide any advantage in most driving situations and will introduce vibration that solid discs don't have and will also cause premature wear on the pads (which will likely also come with an increase in dust level).

What wheels do you use for winter?

    16" Saab wheels.

You can use others, but you just need to be careful that you get the right off set AND they need the right inner diameter to make sure they will clear the calipers.

Lol but which Saab wheels? Just the plain 16" 5 spoke 9-5 wheels? I would be really tempted to get the older fat 3 spoke wheels. I think they look pretty sweet lol

    Vikings?

They should be easy to find, but be aware there are ones with the lugs exposed (as above) and ones with a center cap that covers them. Both basically the same wheel, but thats a small difference to be aware of.

No, they were 5 spoke wheels that were available at SOC a couple of years ago. Came back with a complete set for $200 ... brand new! Never saw them before, never saw them anywhere else.
I can post photos once I put them on this year ... can't recall if I have any photos from the past with them on. They aren't my favourite ... not by a LONG shot!

Yeah, I noticed a few Saab sites selling those wheels, and others. I love the quirky-ness of their wheel designs. I don't think a fat 3 spoke wheel would look good on any other car.

    **edit- What's this SOC?

SOC is the Saab Owners convention. It's a big convention held every year, usually around August. The next one is in Iowa City I think.

    Sounds interesting.

Since we're talking about wheels and winter tires , is it possible to run 225/55 tires on the Aero 17s? I wouldn't mind getting some winter tires with a little more meat on them. But only if they're not rubbing against my fenders.
