05 9-3 Linear with 125k mi...suspension is beat...where do I start?
The front is especially bumpy, and it is now affecting the steering pull and general handling. I am wondering if I should do a full strut, bearing, mounting, bushings, springs and other component swap while I have the thing apart, and if I can get by with some general OEM part replacement. I have been sourcing parts, and there doesn't seem to be much clarity on product choice (Bilstein, Koni FSD, KYB, Sachs, etc.). Most of the spring choices are for a lowered option. Seeking advice on a modest upgrade path..or maybe just stock if this is the best price-to-performance solution for a daily driver application. Thanks for your input!

If you don't have anything against going a tad lower, I would suggest the Koni FSD kit. I've only heard good things about it. Firm and sporty, without being too jarring for a regular/daily use.

The Koni FSD springs are a good choice. They work with stock springs on the 9-5 but I am not sure if it is the same with the 9-3. I recently replaced rear shocks on my 9-5 and was very satisfied with the ride quality of the Bilstein shocks. Sachs is a bit lower end and I would rather spend a little extra on such an important suspension part.

Thanks for the input. I think the FSD's where where I was originally headed and most readily available packaged option. Bilsteins have a storied reputation, and look pretty well constructed and substantial (above stock components). I like the FSD kit concept, and this would be an easy purchase (yet expensive). I am going to replace the springs, bearing, bushings as well, but haven't really looked at them to determine weak links, wear, etc. Wondering if tie rod ends, ball joint, control arm, sway bar components are usually replaced during a suspension tear down (?)
The alternative would be to go a cheaper route like a Koni Yellow, KYB, or dare I say it...Monroe, but the forums seem to support the higher end components. I welcome the input and support, and any DIY stories/pics. Thanks again for the advice!

I added some information here to get you started: http://saabworld.net/f69/saab-9-3-suspension-24673/
More documents will be added to the Downloads section but that will take some more time.

Outstanding! Thanks for sharing this data. Looks like something I can do on my own. BTW, how do you like your 9-4X?

The 9-4X is great. It's nice to have a new vehicle where you don't have to worry about maintenance and repairs. On the other hand, I sometimes miss the satisfaction of working on an older Saab. I guess I need to buy a second older Saab eventually.

You never should have sold your 9 5.
Thats my story and I am sticking to it.
