SID message = Brake Light Failure
Brake (stop) lights are working but 3rd stop light in trunk lid is not. I checked all 4 bulbs in the light bar -- and they all look good. Anybody have experience on what else might be causing error message?

Check the fuses. I can't remember which one, but something like 26 is sticking in my head. Anyways, it should be on the fuse box map.

Fuses are all good. Replaced all 4 of the bulbs in the trunk lid light bar -- same message. Plan to replace the brake lights in the port and starboard lenses as well -- even though they all appear to illuminate. In reading other forums I get the impression that sometimes the SID message is displayed when a bulb is failing -- but has not yet gone dark.
Anybody have other ideas?

Here's the close-out on this problem. After x-thousand trunk openings and closings the wires literally broke in half inside the wire harness that sits at the top driver side of the trunk lid. My indie-mechanic traced the system and then took apart and spliced the damaged leads.

Good find for him. I never would have thought of that, but it makes sense.

This is a problem area on the 9-5 but it makes sense it could also happen with the 9-3.

I should have paid more attention and connected the dots.

I used to get that message intermittently on mine and had the same thing: good bulbs. It ended up being poor grounding between the bulbs and the socket. A small application of dielectric grease around the base of the bulb prevented the slightly loose bulbs from losing ground, and the message never popped up again.
