My wife's 9-4X XWD 3.0L hasn't quite made it to 5,000 miles and the algorithm says it's ready for an oil change. She does a lot of cold starts and short trips.

FWIW, my wife's Saab is the 3.0L. The local O'Reilly's FLAPS computer has differing oil filter P/N for the Saab and Cadillac 3.0 engines. They didn't have a Fram or AC Delco PF48 anyway and no listing in the Fram big book for a 9-4X. O'Rs computer says PH10060 same-same AC Delco PF48. The Fram big book and the Fram computer showed a PH10575 for the Cadillac truck, It also gave a WIX 57045 for the Saab 9-4X. So they think four different filters fit the same 3.0L engine.

I bought the WIX 57045, because it is about two inches longer than the Fram PH10060, which I also bought as a backup. They both have the same gasket and same 22mmx1.5mm female thread.

The Fram web site lists both the PH10060 and PH10575 as for the Cadillac truck and Saab truck. It lists the PH10590 as equivalent to the WIX 57045, for Dodge trucks and Jeeps, so three different Fram P/Ns.

The oil change should happen tomorrow, so I'll post if the longer filter will fit on the Saab.

Plenty of room for the WIX 57045 and some think it is a better filter than Fram, so that's what's in there now.

Hi Frank and everyone -I ordered and received an oil filter from SaabPartsUSA (two actually, to save on shipping for my 9-4X Premium and it looks similar to the one pictured above.

I popped open the box, grabbed the seal ring, and put it up on the lift. What I found for a filter looks to be a cartridge-type filter, and not this insert or spin-type filter. It's in a blue casing.

So I didn't proceed any further.I looked at FRAM filters and they sell cartridge-type filters for the 9-4X.

I went back to SaabPartsUSA and contacted my "local" Saab dealer (340 miles away) and both say the Saab parts catalogue shows it as a spin-type which is what I received.

Sounds like you have first hand experience ... was it cartridge or did you pull the blue casing off, clean it, and put in this spin/insert-type?

Again, this is for the Premium and not the Aero. Thanks in advance.

The Premium / V6 3.0i engine uses the PF48 filter, not the insert-type filter.

That is what it looks like! Thanks, Frank. Really enjoy it ... though the miles are stacking up too fast!

Well a second 5,000 miles and the oil change warning is on. This confirms the GM algorithm thinks that's what is the limit on a 3.0 with lots of short trips and cold starts.

I am going to go with a synthetic blend instead of full synthetic, as what's the use of having a computer and then arguing with it all the time?

I'm sticking with Mobil 1, but do try and wait for sales -- I think a 6-pack is $26 at Costco right now. I'm going much closer to 8 - 10K for a change based on the computer.
