    rear wiper stopped working

My 2006 9-5 Combi rear wiper stopped functioning a few weeks ago. Fuse good, washer still works. All other wiper functions work fine. This has rain sensing system on front. Any hints on a typical problem? Relay?

I'm new to the forum. Just used the ATF thread for changing fluid. very nice write up. Looks to be a good site.

Car has 129,000 miles. Looks like I will be keeping for a few more year given current market situation.

This is the third problem I have had with car- first being wacky coolant gage, thermostat issue. Second being heater bypass gizmo leak.

thanks in advance for any help

It's possible the motor has burnt out but also check the nut that secures the wiper arm to the motor. I've seen them come loose before, the motor will move and the arm will remain stationary.

2x on the nut, anytime I had this issue on the 900 it was a loose nut.

I checked that. All seems tight- arm is very secure and nut tight. Are the switches on the column- slider for the rear --a problem?

    thanks

Can you hear the motor running at all? Cuz I've stripped out the grooves when I was lazy and tried to clear off snow with the wiper before.

If no sound, my next step would be to remove the motor and start investigating there.

Fixed !!! So I checked the fuse again, the relay. Ok. I decided to pull the motor. I went back to take the out nut off the wiper and and as I pull on it the arm sort of snapped up, maybe click is a better term. Was not loose. Turned on the switch and it works. I would appear that the arm was too far down or jammed. All good !

Over a year later and was looking for threads like this as the motor on my wife's 9-5 had stopped working but fuse & relay were both good. Loosened the nut and worked the arm back about 2mm & bingo everything works 100%. I'm thinking the arm had seized where the shaft goes thru the bushing on the window preventing the arm from turning. Sprayed some lube into the bushing to keep things free and, fingers crossed, all will be 100% going forward.

    Love forums like this!
