    Changing Spark Plugs

    Hi, all!

Finally was able to take my 04 Aero into the shop to get it looked at. Tonight, the owner called me to tell me it was all fixed up, but he recommended changing the spark plugs and rotating the tires. Sounds great, I'm totally happy, but then I got to figuring out how much he was asking to do both of those things.

I think he wants close to $200 to change them. Is this worth spending the money and having a shop do it? I've changed spark plugs before, on my last car, and it was simple enough(except that it was a V8, and doing the back two was a pain), and I found a tutorial online for changing the plugs, and it seems straightforward enough.

    Thoughts?

Changing spark plugs on the 9-5 is very easy to do. The platinum plugs are about $10 each and changing the plugs yourself only takes about 15 minutes (or less). Just unplug and remove the DIC, remove old and install new plugs. Put DIC back in place. Even a caveman could do it!

Nice! Picking up the car in an hour it so. It'll be so nice to have it back again!

So, I've looked on partsgeek.com, and I've found a spectacular price on some champion double platinums, but where do you get them? I suppose I may want to pick them up at Auto Zone or something, that way I know there is no damage caused in shipping or anything.

Do yourself a favor and only use the recommended NGK plugs: http://saabworld.net/f9/faqs-about-s...-586/#post2325

You can even get them on Amazon with free shipping: Amazon.com: NGK (6290) PFR6H-10 Laser Platinum Spark Plug, Pack of 1: Automotive

I usually buy mine off of Eeuroparts, but if you go into advanced or auto zone and tell them you need 4x NGK PFR6H10 they should have them or be able to get them for you.

A-ha. Thanks for that. I hadn't gotten around yet to checking what the OES parts were. Still not a bad price, considering. Thanks for the input!

On another SAAB site, a factory engineer had written in about the importance of using the correct plugs.
