    Mixed results with Brembo discs

A few months ago, I replaced my worn rear discs with Brembo 09.9505.10 (292 mm, vented, made in Italy) disc. Performance-wise, they are fine. However, the hub is now rusty. This is expected with steel.

In contrast, the original discs, both front and rear have black center of the discs that don't rust. With many wheels having large openings now, rust is easy for others to see. BMW uses discs that have a brushed silver appearance but they don't rust either, like Saab. The Brembos do rust. The Brembo rust started within a week and was fully coated within a month. The areas where the pads contact are nice and silver. Curiously, the area of the hub where the wheel is firmly pressed against is not very rusty yet. The original disc were rusty there because there is no black coating there.

When I mention rust, I mean the center part of the disc that is visible. The most center thing is the wheel and center cap. Beyond that is the disc, which is rusty. Beyond that is the braking surface, which is not rusty.

One nice thing about Brembo is that it comes with two rotor screws per disc. I didn't know this so I bought some Saab sourced screws.

You should have painted them with some high-temp paint before you but them on. Just be sure to not paint the braking surface, but a little bit isn't bad as it will quickly wear off.

I did this on a friends car just a couple weeks ago. Painted black, so it kinda hides them away a bit too.

I have the Brembos too and mine are also rusty, specially after a month at sea. I plan on doing what Wulf said, get some high temperature paint, and apply it after removing the rust with a bristle brush. The rust is just supperficial and cosmetic, but it's good practice to paint it.

Centric is one brand I think paints non friction surfaces black.
