I decided not to register, and won't be attending.

A rather large ticket in Massachusetts ate the rest of my spare cash. The rest is needed for new tires, and diagnosing why my car is occasionally burning oil still. I'll also need some time to work in said car once the semester is over.

Next year I'll have a jar labeled "Shazam to Carlisle" so I don't deplete my funds.

Let me stress the car thing. Carlisle isn't looking for a chromed underchassis and super detailed paint. We wanna see numbers. We wanna see a viggen without a sunroof. We wanna see 4 turbo notchback sedans. We wanna see a rusty brown 74 99. We want tranny swaps in the show field. We wanna beat Volvo!!@!!
Serious? I'm a newbie, about two hours away, never been to any Saab events yet. I was thinking about driving up and checking this out. My 2005 9-3 has a cracked front bumper, and it's not exactly cherry.....but this would give me an excuse to give her a detail and take a drive.....it wouldn't be sacrilege to park my daily ride next to a pristine classic 900?

How many tires and what size you need? I need to clear out my overstocked used Saab tire inventory and put some green in my pockets for car fixing. I am all for helping out another Saaber in need.
I got 205/55/16 215/55/16 225/45/17 235/45/17 all sorts of tires ranging from 5/32 tread to new.

I also have some Saab wheels I no longer need/use I would even sell for bargain basement pricing! Would work out a package deal too with some tires.

Optimally, I've been half-searching for a cheap set of 17's with some decent rubber on them. But I'm most likely going to just get some 205/55/16 (I think that's the size...) to replace what I've got.

I can't buy anything until I start working again in a couple weeks though.

The latest news from the event coordinators:

We started the final week of registration with just 110 cars pre-registered, but thanks to a magnificent push from the procrastination contingent we grew to 206 cars and 258 people.

Here are some fun facts, as if you needed any more reason to be anxious for the show:

    • Cars range from a 1968 96 through a total of eight 2011 9-3, 9-4X and 9-5 models.
    • People are coming from as far away as Texas and Florida.
    • 52 campsites have been spoken for.
    • Over 120 have registered for Friday Night and Sunday Lunch, so quite a few of you are making a weekend of it.
    • Over 60 have signed up for each day of our newest meal: Pancake Breakfast on the showfield.
    • Silver and grey cars have narrowly outnumbered black this year with a 44 to 43 edge.
    • Yellow/orange and white cars are the rarest at only 6 each.
    • My personal favorite model, the 99, is making a serious comeback this year outnumbering 900 SPGs and 9000 Aeros.
    • Not exactly a comeback so much as a first: the 9-2X outnumbers 99s, SPGs and Aeros this year.
    • The "Friends of Saab" parking area looks to be as competitive as ever this year. Some of the more interesting cars in our non-Saab area include an Austin Healey Sprite, Porsche 911, '91 Mazda RX-7, Lotus Elise and some very potent BMWs.
    • Speaking of 2-digit cars, more than 25% of the field are pre-GM cars. Hopefully next year we will have a similar number of post-GM cars!

Oh but it is my Saab friend! Pick an airport to arrive - and locate your local Saab members and just ask. I assure you 1 out of 5 will say heck yeah. We are just that sort of people as you should be well aware.

Drop on by - always a seat for your ass and a cold beer for your hand.

Well I suppose that would make it challenging. Why are we still "invading" Afghanistan anyways? I wish you well and much luck. Your service is much appreciated.

We're not invading anyone. I just wish Bushtard didn't waste so many of our money, years and lives in Iraq. The quagmire in Afghanistan would have been a whole lot easier and hopefully over by now. /end of politics/

There is a small chance I won't go, in which case I will probably be attending the IntSaab in Belgium, early August.
