Dexcool in my new 03 Aero, I'm a G05 Fan...........

So I'm slowly going through everything on my 03 Aero with, now 75K that I picked up in January.

I do not like Dexcool, I am going to change over to G05. I was going to flush the system by draining and refilling with distilled water, running to car through operating temp. Drain and repeat 3-4 times before adding the G05. Is this going to be enough to completely flush? I should have the heater cranked to get the heater core too, correct?

    TIA

I would think that would be enough to get all the orange juice out of the system, and it wouldn't hurt running the heater as an added measure. I need to do this with my car when I put the European heater hose kit on. Really not a fan of the Dexcool either.

European Hose kit? Is that to replace the heater bypass? Where can I find one?

Correct, it deletes the heater bypass valve. I purchased mine through Justin at Strictly Saab down in Melbourne, Florida for $30 or $40/shipped. It's an aftermarket hose kit since you can't get the Genuine Saab hoses at the moment unless you purchase directly from a dealer in Sweden... (I priced it out through a friend there, with shipping to get the genuine kit, you end up spending like $60-70.)

What's the issue with using Dexcool and why is G05 better?

I don't have a good answer for that, other than GM wants it in my car.

And, that I've used it in all my Saabs for a very long time with no H20 pumps failing (other than the 900T, but that was at 250K)

As far as I know, Saab never specified G05 for the 9-5. And I never experienced any problems with Dexcool myself. I wouldn't mess with a different type of coolant unless you have a specific reason to do so. And know more about the engine and coolant types than the Saab engineers do..

My boss was never a fan of Dexcool and noticed a lot more failures in waterpumps, HBPVs and such with fairly low mileage cars running Dexcool compared to higher mileage cars running the old Saab blue juice. I honestly never kept track of that kinda stuff, but I guess he did and noticed a trend.

I too have noticed a tendency for Dexcool to gunk things up. Personally, I just think any kind of regular coolant flush is a good idea, regardless of what you use. Coolant wears out like anything else.

Changing coolants with the 9-5 is a pain, you can never get it all out. You're gonna need a lot of distilled water for what you purpose.
