Where in the world is this place?

should be an easy one (pretty sure its been done before as well) this place has a population of about half a million and it is either in north america or europe! enjoy!

My first thought was it look similar to Luxembourg but was not Luxembourg.

I looked up the capitals of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Slovenia, and the picture is not that. I have a sneaky suspicion that it's in Western Europe, not Eastern Europe.

Definitely Not Luxembourg having stayed there a few times - the river is wrong.
Not in the UK - if we were to consider Cardiff and Edinburgh as capitals of small active European countries.
Andorra, Lichtenstein, Switzerland are all possible but too busy at present to look any further.

This picture was posted by a Swiss Saabist so the obvious place to look first is Switzerland. I assumed the capital was Geneva or even Zurich but it actually is Bern. I am sure I learned that in school but that's quite a while ago..!

I have been to Switzerland several times but never been to Bern. Looks like a lovely small city, have to visit there some day.
