HELP PLEASE .. What is this part !

THis morning I was quietly driving and I heard something snap beneath the dashboard. The car continued normally. When I parked I checked and found a little yellow plastic thingy and this in the footwell on the carpet beneath the pedals !!! It's 12 cms / 5 inches long, the spring is strong.

The car is not automatic. The clutch, accelerator and brake pedals all feel and operate normally.
I phoned "Mario" my Saab mechanic but he is off sick for a week..

So, no this is not a new guessing game but can one of you help me by identfying it ?

There is always a possibility that it came from beneath the seat and rolled foreward but much more likely to belong to one of the pedals.

My apologies for my long absence. I'll explain later but have been keeping a close eye on what must now be the finest WorldWide Saab Forum.

    David

    That's the clutch pedal spring.

    From the WIS:

    To remove
    1. Press the clutch pedal forward.
    2. Remove (lift off) the clutch spring from the clutch pedal (A).

    To fit
    1. Move the clutch pedal spring up and position it in the clip (A).
    2. Move the clutch pedal forward and hook the clutch pedal spring into place.

Here are the part numbers if you need them. Not sure if something broke. Perhaps the clip #10 failed?

    Frank, you are incredible ...
I checked my WIS but couldn't find it ... but that's me !
I'll take a look later and see if I can replace the spring but its probably best I call my garage so that they acn order the broken yellow clip and let them replace it.
Do you think driving a few miles without the spring in place will cause extra wear to the clutch, I doubt it.

    Un tres grand merci,
    David.

I think the spring just eliminates any play in the pedal and doesn't affect the actual clutch.

Glad to be able to help, hope everything else is going good for you.

Make sure you get the seats for it - this is a common failure item on the older cars - not sure why, but they seem to fail at times. It gives the feel of a clutch with a cable and help the pedal to return.
