'89 900 16 Valve : Exhaust Rattle...I think?
Hello again, SaabWorld.
My dilema of the day : As of yesterday I've noticed a rather LOUD rattle coming from the exhaust of my 900 16 valve. I took a look underneath of it, only to find no results. No broken Brackets, no loose pipes, etc etc.
I've come up with two possible scenarios : Loose/Broken Heat Shield, or Loose/Broken Exhaust Flange.
NOTE : the rattle is only occuring upon a cold start and/or when in reverse gear, and has a rather loud tinging sort of sound when it happens.
Any ideas?Kyle Hudson

Sounds like a heat shield, to me. Automatics do different vibrations in neutral than in gear because the idle speeds are different. "Tinging" doesn't sound like anything rattling around in the head or a broken flange, at least to me. Not sure if it could be wastegate-related, but maybe one of our turbo gurus could chime in about that possibility
Ask me a question about your c900! I promise I either can answer it or know someone who can
