This thread provides information on how to get the most of the SaabWorld forum software and expose some things that may not be immediately obvious.
Make sure to check out the FAQ (http://saabworld.net/faq.php) as well. It has some good information for novice and experienced users, especially when coming from the other big Saab forums which are running much older versions of the vBulletin software.

We have a few custom BB Code tags on SaabWorld. A BB Code tag is a markup you can use in your posts, enclosed by square brackets. An example is the Bold tag for text: [B]this is bold text[/B ] results in this is bold text
Please note I used a space in the [/B ] closing tag to show you this example. You wouldn't normally use a space here but I put it in there so it wouldn't automatically parse those tags in this example.
You normally don't have to bother with these tags because you can just use the icons at the top of the editor window. With this brief explanation of BB Code tags, here are a few custom tags we added to SaabWorld.
They can be used with the icons in the Advanced Editor window or the actual BB code tags.
Google Maps [MAP] [/MAP ]
This tags can be used to display interactive maps in your posts. Examples:
Location: [MAP]Trollhattan, Sweden[/MAP ]
You can also use addresses, zip/postal codes or points of interest, for example [MAP]White House, USA[/MAP ]
Route between two locations: [MAP]Trollhattan, Sweden to Spa, Belgium[/MAP ]
Route with waypoints: [MAP]from:New York, NY to:Atlanta, GA to: Denver, CO[/MAP ]
Flash video [FLASH] [/FLASH ]
If you know the location of Flash .swf video file, use these to embed in a post

If you're only interested in one or a few forums and you're not a frequent site visitor, you can subscribe to those forums and get automatically daily or weekly email notifications with any new activity.
For example, if you're interested in the Saab 900 Workshop:
- Go to the forum Saab 900 (1979-1994)
- In the forum toolbar, click on the Forum Tools dropdown and select 'Subscribe to this Forum'
- For notification type, choose My control panel or daily/weekly updates by email.
It's that easy. More info: Setting and Profile Features

Have you ever typed a long post on any forum and your browser or computer crashed, lost your internet connection, accidentally hit the wrong key on your keyboard / moved away from the page and lost that post you worked on for a while?
Nothing is lost on SaabWorld. When you type in a post in an existing or new thread, you'll see Auto-Saved occasionally flashing in the lower-right corner. It will save your post every minute, even when you haven't submitted the post yet. If you loose the page or post for any reason, you can go back to that thread and you'll see Restore Auto-Saved Content in the lower left corner. Click on it and your previous 'lost' post will appear again with the content from the last Auto-Save.
The same thing for when you composed a post for a new thread (like a long tutorial). Go back to the forum you were creating the new thread, click on Post New Thread and you will also see Restore Auto-Saved Content.

Just a few tips on how to check for new content.
New Posts
This will show a list of threads that have new posts since your last visit.
You will see a small dot in front of the thread title. When you click this, it will take you to the first unread post in the thread. When you hold down the <CTRL> key on your keyboard, you can click any unread threads dots and they will open in a new tab.
Activity Stream / What's New?
This will show you all new content in chronological order. It includes forums and other areas of the site that have new content. There are a few options to filter content.

The way to give a thumbs up is to click the thumbs up once. It turns to red and "1" but it is not a thumbs down as it first may seem.
