Carpet cleaning
I have used the cans with carpet cleaner foam before and that worked fine for light stains and dirt. Are there any reasonably priced carpet cleaners for deep cleaning with water? I am thinking of something like this for $99: Bissell AutoCare ProHeat® Deep Cleaner | Handheld Deep Carpet Cleaning Machine
I am sure you get what you pay for. This seems to be more professional at $400: http://www.mytee.com/products/product.php?id=s300
Or is it easier just to go to a car detailing place and have it done? I imagine it can't be too expensive for just cleaning the carpet.
Any places that rent these kind of professional car cleaners? Any other suggestions for products or tips to make carpet look and smell like new again?

Call a place that does professional carpet cleaning, I was surprised at how cheap it was to have the carpets cleaned professionally when I moved out of my home in Alaska, cost me $120 for the whole house including the stairs, and renting the home kit was going to cost me at least $70. The professional that came to my home did an excellent job and told me he does car interiors and carpets too.

I was looking at a local place which does it for $60. I guess it is not really worth it to buy an expensive machine you only use once or twice. Traverse City Car Detailing, Traverse City Truck Detailing, Traverse City Car wash, Benzie Auto Detailing, Leelanau

Here, Safeway rents carpet cleaners. One could rent one and use it on the car. Any time left in the 24 hour rental period and one could use it on the house....wait, supposed to be the other way around.

Frank, I have two dogs that shed like crazy. So I bought one of these Bissell Lift Off Deep Cleaner, 80X9 - Walmart.com and it has worked out great.
Also what I have found out to use instead of cleaning solution in the machines is to substitue it for white vinegar. It does smell some but once it dries you will actually notice it cleans the carpet better and doesn't mask the smell of your carpet.

I've used steamers/shampooers and they work excellent! But personally I prefer to break a sweat. Grab some Purple Power, hard plastic brush, a softer plastic brush, bucket of water and a wet vac. Just apply the Purple Power and get to work!
