    Tires, tires, tires ...

Ok, so with some bad rear end issues (I have some new poly bushings to start addressing that), I have BAD tire wear problems.

So, I am looking at putting new rubber on the beast.

Specifically, I'm looking at the General Tire, G-Max AS-03 and Toyo Extensa HP.

    Thoughts?

Why are you looking at only these 2? Price, performance, good tread wear rating, handling or other?

What exactly are you looking for in a tire? Summer, winter, all-season? Fuel economy, performance, etc?

    Is the size 225/45R17?

    How about

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 (Tire Rack price in the U.S. $212)
    Continental ExtremeContact DW ($131)
    Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 ($147)
    Michelin Pilot Super Sport ($178)
    Continental ExtremeContact DWS ($129)
    Dunlop SP Sport Signature ($104)
    Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 ($89)

For comparison, the General G-Max AS-03 is $112.

The Continental ExtremeContact DWS are excellent tires, too bad they were backordered when I needed tires!

I think my next tires are going to be the new Yokohama Ascend. Seems like a nice touring tire with an amazing thread warranty of 85K miles. And if you believe their information, they will practically pay for themselves. $125 seems like a pretty good deal to me. And it's even made in the US. The 215/55-16 even has the XL load rating which is recommended for the 9-5 wagon.

Those two in red bold above = don't waste your time. Worst tires you could run on a Saab - stay away from them.

And yes - what do you want out of this set of tires? Do you have dedicated snows? Are you looking for a performance summer tire. All season tires usually mean they are not good in ANY season....

I have winter tires, so I want something for 2.5 seasons (all-season) UHP.
I currently have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S+ and they are great ... but they are at the top of the food chain.

This time around, I am looking for something more cost effective.
I want something that is good on the road. I generally run about 30K miles a year.
Like them to be sticky and quiet ...

On my NG900 I have Hankook Ventus V2 Concept tires in 205/50-16. They are by far some of the best rain tires I have ever driven, the confidence is there. On snow they are good too, not great like a dedicated winter tire, but I drove the whole month of February and March in Germany with snow and they did very well. They even have the snowflake symbol on the side, although they are all season performance tires, they are rated for winter too. So far I am very satisfied with these tires, they are a great all around tire, and I'd recommend them if you are looking for all season performance.

The General's are back on sale at Canadian Tire ... buy 3, get the 4th free.

Given the pricing and availability (and closeness), I'll likely be getting a set of those installed today ... shortly after having the steering wheel controls sorted out.

Good day for my Saab ... not so good for my wallet.
Then have to find time to replace the 2 big bushings for the rear suspension.
