A new old friend
hey guys. I see some familiar names here. Last month I picked up this great find.
1984 T8 205km
Its in really nice shape overall. bit of rust including a door that I really will just replace if I can get a good replacement. I thought I had a pair hidden away, but I guess not.
Unortunately I haven't got my hands very dirty with it, I injured my hand the week after I got it and still can't do much.

Welcome back old friend. I hope you weren't without a Saab for too long or did you sell the one you had before? I can't quite remember what Saabs you had before.

Hey Jetman! It is good to see you back. And what a nice car! It looks clean. They really did a much better job rustproofing the older ones.
Ask me a question about your c900! I promise I either can answer it or know someone who can

Yes Scott it was! Scott was contacted a few months ago by an Ontario Saab owner looking to gift this beautiful car to someone who would care for it and restore it and keep it on the road.
I guess I've done enough chest pumping for the old 8 valves to Scott over the years that he thought of me. It took some logistical work to actually get the car home. But in the end I drove it home 550 km hassle free.
This car is a good fit for me because 1) I love it and 2) I have so many parts for it. I've swapped off quite a number of things where parts I have are in better shape already. But I haven't been able to dive into the bits of cancer since I messed my hand up pretty good a week after getting the car. I was just at a specialist this week and he said that my hand won't require surgery, but that it takes a long time to heal and hurts a lot. Thanks doc! I guess I blew out many of the ligaments in my fingers, and so my left hand is not much help.
However, the car is in quite good shape overall. My list includes bits of rust, a new driver's door (lots of rust), headliner, valve cover gasket (just found a new one cleaning up the garage), front main seal (or whatever is causing an average leak), install SPG trim kit, install lowering springs, install skid plate, install fogs, install some sort of audio. Other then that everything including the AC works perfect and the dash has just one tiny crack starting (must epoxy).
Right now I've been reorganizing my garage so that I can get the car in there and get going on the rust. It's probably a bigger chore then the car work!
I'm still looking for a drivers door without rust if anyone has a lead on one. I live in Ontario, but I have good tentacles into North Carolina, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona if anyone can help me nab one.

Hey Jetman - here's a guy in ONT parting out a 900:
Saab 900 car or parts - Ottawa Transmission, Drive Train For Sale - Kijiji Ottawa Canada.
Not sure what condition the doors are in. Hopefully he's close enough the door wouldn't need to be shipped?
On that note, what's the best way to ship a door?
Car looks great! Look forward to seeing your progress. BTW, did it take more or less time than you thought to get back into a 900?

hey jetman you definitely don't have to explain but what did you do to damage your hand? I'm a med student doing musculoskeletal at the moment and it's probably beneficial to my study, more so than Saabs, but I do love 8 valves

I was playing in a hockey tournament in early April. Soft ice, skating backwards and dug the heal of my skate into the ice. Fell on my butt, but managed to ram my fingers straight into the ice. A typical injury in basketball if you reached out for a ball and took it straight on the fingers. Well I didn't chip the bones at the finger joints, but I ruptured the ligaments and tore one tendon. I impacted both the 'interphalangeal articulations' of the middle and ring fingers. This has to be the slowest healing most painful thing I've injured in a long time. You don't realize how much you need both hands.
