Saab Parts AB continues as an independent company

    Press release

    • Saab Automobile Parts AB is not included in the sale of Saab Automobile AB
    • The parts company continues to serve Saab customers globally with Saab Genuine Parts and aftersales service and also to expand its logistics operations
    • The Swedish National Debt Office announced that they intend to take over the ownership of Saab Automobile Parts AB

“We are well prepared for the future, both commercially and financially, and see great opportunities to strengthen the service offers to all Saab owners”, says Lennart Ståhl, CEO of Saab Automobile Parts AB.

Earlier today the receivers of Saab Automobile AB announced that they had reached an agreement to sell asset of Saab Automobile AB. At the same time it was announced that the company responsible for sales and distribution of Saab parts globally, Saab Automobile Parts AB, will not be included in the sale. The Swedish National Debt Office have announced that the State will exercise its pledge and take over the ownership of Saab Automobile Parts AB.

“We knew it was a possible scenario that the spare parts company would remain outside the sale of Saab Automobile AB and have planned for this so that Saab Automobile Parts AB could operate as an independent company regardless of the outcome of the sale process”, says Lennart Ståhl.

Since the bankruptcy of Saab Automobile AB, the team at Saab Automobile Parts AB have been working to separate the operations of the two companies and this work is now largely complete. This project has included the formation of a new commercial office in Trollhättan, Sweden, hiring engineers to provide technical support and forming new international subsidiaries. At the beginning of the year the company launched a subsidiary in the United Kingdom and last week also established a subsidiary in the important North American market. This development and expansion of Saab Automobile Parts AB will continue in the future as the company further strengthens and diversifies its business.

“There are about one and half a million Saab cars on the roads around the world that we care about. We will continue the work to provide Saab owners globally with Saab Genuine Parts, service and technical support. We now also look forward to working with the new owner of Saab Automobile AB on future business opportunities once the sale process is completed. In parallel, we continue working to expand our logistics operations with other companies”, says Lennart Ståhl.

This is probably the best news to come out of this whole saga, but we kind of already knew this.

If the Swedish government runs this company well and not like the stereotypical DMV (driver's license office which, in U.S. states have a reputation to be slow), there is the potential to have a decent supply of parts. This company could also have a longer lifespan than NEVS.

The long delay might have resulted in the bankruptcy administrators trying to justify accepting the NEVS bid even though it is reported much lower than Youngman's.

The silver lining in the NEVS bid is that if 9-3 electric cars are built, this could help the resale value of the 9-3 slightly as there would be renewed interest in the 9-3 (even the gas version) and end the perception that Saab is no more. 9-3 electric cars could also increase availability of 9-3 trunk lids due to continued production of body parts and whatever parts are common between the 9-3 and 9-3 electric car.
