How go you replace the antenna motor?
Working on my friends '98 SE Vert. The mast has broken off, which wouldn't be a big deal if the car had a radio I could test the antenna motor with, but it doesn't. So, I want to replace the whole thing just to be safe with a used unit for pretty cheap.
I've found a lot of stuff on the mast replacement, but none covering the motor replacement.
From looking at the car, it looks like I need to undo the 17mm nut on the mast and pull the black piece off, then undo the two nuts on the mounting bracket at the bottom of the mast motor, unhook the wiring and pull it out. Is that how it's done, or is there something else. (and please don't tell me it has to reprogrammed with techII)
Then of course once he gets a radio in it, I'll test the old motor and if it still works, I'll replace the mast and sell it and give him the money for it.I don't drive fast...I fly slow

Sounds about right to me. My antenna isn't broken, but the power part doesn't work - it just thuds when the radio is turned on and off. My plan is just to unhook the wiring...don't ever really listen to the radio anyways.
Be careful undoing the nut on the mast so you don't scratch it. Use a shop cloth or something to protect it.

I did use a cloth to protect the car. Although, I was being stupid and cut myself badly on the broken mast. (tried bending a part of the mast that wasn't letting the nut come off with a wrench and slipped and cut my hand on the sharp metal of the mast. Stupid idea )
Also, the eBay ad was wrong about the antenna I bought. Said it was for a convertible, but the mounting bracket was clearly not for a convertible. So I have to adapt the one that's already there. More of a pain than I thought.I don't drive fast...I fly slow

I need to replace the antenna on mine. You can hear the motor going but the antenna is bent.

You can replace just the mast for about $15. You don't even have to take the unit out of the car.

That is great to know. I will start looking for a new mast. I was worried I would have to replace it all.
