2008 9-3 how to reset Time for Service

I recently purchased a used 2008 9-3 with just under 40k miles on it. I performed the 40k service myself and I want to reset the Time for Service indicator. I followed the directions on page 96 of the Owner's manual, but the Time for Service heading does not appear when I scroll the up/down arrows on the steering wheel. It goes to the "Next Service" heading and it shows 28% Intermediate. But the next heading it goes to is ESP.

Does anyone know if only a mechanic can reset this? Or is there some quirky trick to it?

    Thanks in advance.

    9-3, 2003-on Service Reset

Hello, I'va consulted the WIS for this procedure
I still have to try myselfs as well, however during working week
I am not in any near neighborhood of my Saab 9-3,
so I can only try this next week, and will report:

    1) turn Ignition key to 'ON' (without starting thr engine
    2) Select 'Settings' using INFO-button
    3) Hold the SET botton depressed until it beeps.
    4) Select 'Time-for-Service' with Info-button.
    5) Hold 'SET' again depressed until it beeps.
    6)Select 'YES' using INfo-button.

*) For Cars with Diesel engine: HoLd Brake pedal depressed
+) Reset the Service-Indicator via a brief press on the 'SET' button.
-) Turn the Ignition key to the 'Lock' position.

I hope this helps, I have a gasoline fuel car, and will test this next Weekend.

    Good-Luck, Harry.

I had also followed the same procedure but it doesn't seem to work on mine either. Mine is a US gasoline model. Thanks for responding, though.

my Euopean-car all of the sudden -while driving- asked myself,
whether to I wanted to Re-Set the Service Interval or Not????

I was astonished, repsonded on the SID with a yes, and of we went for another periode,...
I've pictured the forgoing display messages at traffic light,

What percentage were you at when the request popped up? I am at 28% now and have tried a few reset attempts/procedures with no luck. North american 2008 gas 2.0T SS

One can set the clock and date ahead, which will allow you to reset the SID. However, I don't like that way. I did it and was able to reset the SID, but the days left to the next service no longer worked. You may remember that the SID may read 67% left or 283 days left.

I have a 2005 9-3. Oil changes are supposed to be done according to the SID, which also tracks it so that you will do an oil change at least once every two years. (It was reduced to a minimum of once a year in later model years). When I set the date ahead, say October 20, 2014, to get the SID to allow me to reset, I think the algorithm then changed to "when it's needed or October 20, 2016, whichever is first". Then when I reset the date to October 23, 2013, it stays on "720 days left" for about a year.

This worked for me but I didn't have to press and hold the SET button on the Time for service screen. It already said "reset intermediate service" YES/NO. thanks for the tip.
This is what I had to do:
    1) Turn Ignition key to 'ON' (without starting the engine)
    2) Select 'Settings' using INFO button
    3) Hold the SET button depressed until it beeps.
    4) Select ‘Time-for-Service' with Info button.
    5)Select 'YES' using INFO button.
    6) Press SET

Under normal circumstances an owner can not reset the service indicator until the time to service becomes zero. Intermediate service limits are 1 year, 10,000 miles, or X number of cold starts. I have a 2008 9-3SS and 2009 9-3 XWD, both bought new. When the 2009 9-3 has been driven less than 5,000 miles in one year it resets at 365 days. 1% service clicks down about every 3 days if the car is not driven. On long freeway drives the 1% service clicks down at 100 miles driven. With routine driving the number of starts to go from 100% to 0% has been between 6,500 miles to almost 9,000 miles driven. My 2008 9-3 was bought in Sept 2008 and the service indicator went to 0% at 400 miles driven. Now the Main service is set for 30,000 miles. So, after your Intermediate service resets the Main service will be something like 65%, 30%, or 6%. The Main and Intermediate service indicators almost never match up. Also, the Intermediate milage 1% (100 miles)goes down faster than the 1% Main milage (300 miles). So at some point the Intermediate service will pop out from behind the Main service. You see the lower of the two numbers.
The only thing which matters for the service indicators was the free service which no one has anymore. I have heard a strong argument to change the oil every 5,000 miles. My Saab service center no longer resets the service indicator for me under any circumstances even if the indicator is at 2%. Originally I did the service by the book, but now I try to do 2 oil changes during the 100% Intermediate service period. After all it's my 9-3 now.
