Suspect clunking noise and reverse lockout
I took the C900 out for a 250 mile ride today, and I noticed the car has developed a clunking noise on the front left. At times it seems like a worn CV, at times like either an engine mount. If the car had a subframe I'd think it was a loose subframe bolt, but since it doesn't... It only clunks when on lightly uneven pavement, and it is more evident when in gear. It seems a lot like a worn outer CV joint, but worn CV joints usually sound worse the more you turn the steering wheel, but that's not the case here. Any ideas?
Another thing is that the reverse lockout seems to be worn. Sometimes when shifting from fourth into fifth I go past the reverse lockout without pulling up on the ring, and at night I can see the reverse light goes on when that happens. Can the reverse lockout be adjusted or easily replaced? Now: '00 Saab 9-5 Aero Combi - '89 Peugeot 205 CTI - '91 Peugeot 309 GTI

Almost certainly is the suspension ball-joint, probably bottom one. But if you do one you really should do top as well. They don't last forever. Inspect the other side too. Another possibility is the roll-bar bushes (if you have a roll-bar) securing it to the lower frame. They wear and allow the bar to contact the frame. You can adjust the lockout. You have to remove the gear-stick and the ball. The lockout pin is screwed in underneath. IIRC there is a pin in the lockout shaft you need to remove so you can turn it.

Thanks peva. I'll look into the ball joints. No roll bar here so that's out of the question. Today I jacked the car and noticed that on the left side shock there is a gap between the upper rubber mount and the car's body. Maybe the culprit? Also looked at my left side engine mount, as best as I could as it's covered with half the engine (...), and it seems it might be worn too, as it seems the rubber part is worn: the part that attached to the engine is not centered on the part that attached to the frame.
